Every service is led by a registered midwife. Prices are on each service and on the full price list.

Antenatal care
First visit R750, follow-ups R550
Midwife-led pregnancy care from your first visit until your baby arrives. Your first visit is an hour long: we take a full history, check you and your baby, and plan your care together.
After that you see us every four weeks until 28 weeks, twice a month until 36 weeks, and weekly from 37 weeks until birth. A compulsory gynae visit at 36 weeks confirms that a midwife-led birth is still safe for you.

Antenatal blood work
R800
The routine pregnancy bloods, taken at the clinic and sent to the laboratory. We go through the results with you at your next visit and refer you on if anything needs a doctor’s attention.

Birth preparation
R1 500 at 34 weeks
A 90-minute session with your doula at 34 weeks: what happens in labour, positions and breathing, what to pack, and how your birth partner can help. Couples can also book the four-session antenatal class series with our doula.

Birth at Essence

A calm, private birth with a midwife and a doula with you from early labour to recovery. See the birth package for everything that is included and how the payment plan works.
- 05
Postnatal care
Day 3 visit free, 6 weeks R400
We see you and your baby on day 3 at no charge: feeding, the cord, jaundice, your healing and how you are coping. At six weeks we check mother and baby together.

Baby checks and immunisation
Baby TSH test R200
Newborn checks, the TSH (thyroid) blood test after birth, growth monitoring, and immunisations on the national schedule from six weeks to 18 months.

Pap smears and family planning
Pap smear R200
Cervical screening and contraception advice in a private, unhurried consultation, whether or not you have had a baby with us.

Chiropractic care
R800, two sessions
Two chiropractor sessions in the last three weeks of pregnancy to help with comfort and your baby’s position.

Doula and birthing champion
From R650
Pregnancy massage, antenatal classes, breastfeeding counselling, postnatal body binding and an on-site birthing champion, offered with Princess Mofokeng of Leruo Health House.
